Usborne Children’s Books
The official web site of Usborne Publishing
Reading practice is crucial for the attainment of National Curriculum literacy standards. That's why teachers love Usborne’s simple sponsored reading event, Ready, Steady... Read!, which is a great fundraising idea that encourages reading both at home and at school.
The more pupils read, the more money will be raised to buy books. And on top of the money raised, Usborne will give your school up to 60% of its value in extra, brand-new, free books!
Children are sponsored to read as much as they can in a given time: term time, school holidays, a 24 hour race - the choice is yours. Reading can include books, comics, magazines, newspapers, menus, recipes, poems - anything with words.
We provide reading logs for recording the total number of minutes spent reading, and the sponsorship money can go towards new books for the school, for the library, for pupils themselves... you choose.
Contact us and we'll put you in touch with your local Usborne representative, who can discuss your individual requirements and arrange the entire sponsored read for you.
"Ready, Steady… Read! with Usborne is not only one of the easiest reading events we have held but also one of the most profitable! The hard work was done by our local Usborne representative… all we had to do was read with the children and encourage them to do so at home. I would recommend Ready, Steady... Read! to any busy teacher or Literacy Co-ordinator."
Mrs Sarah Watson, Deputy Headteacher of Briary Primary School, Herne Bay, Kent.
