"My son was given a copy of this book as an Easter present when he was a month old. He has always loved looking at the lovely bright colours and playing with the flaps. He is almost 6 months now and the book is easily one of his favorites. In fact, to go to sleep during the day I place him in his cot with this book and he falls asleep holding it. I am so happy my son is finding such delight in a book at such an early age."

"On first glance I thought this little spiral book was quite cute. It has some good ideas - that princesses should be kind and graceful - but the book really lost me when it said that princesses never run, not ever. I understand that this book isn't intended for every word to be taken literally but I was still very disappointed. In an age when childhood obesity is on the rise, I think we should be encouraging all of our little princesses to run and run, rather than discouraging them from running."

Babies will be wanting it again and again and those children learning their first words in English as a foreign language (and parents of babies) will find this more interesting than a regular first words book. Simply adorable!"

"I bought this book a year and a half ago for my grandson who turns 3 this coming November. HE LOVES IT!!! So much so that it is almost wore out. The pictures are just too cute and the colors are awesome! On a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being the best...I would have to rate this book at 12 plus because it started my grandson's "love for books" and for that, there is not a rating high enough."

"I bought mine at Border's bookstore, and I love it. I think that it will be really good for my little brother, but I also think that you shold make and publish a gluten-free, casein-free set of these for gluten-free children like my 21-month-old sister. I looked online, and cannot find a gluten-free set. I also like that, while some recipes require baking, you can make the baked stuff ahead of time and let the younger children do the rest."

"I'm a 29 year old adult (well, I use that term looseley!). I recently purchased all three Puzzle Adventure Omnibus as I remember reading all the stories from the ages of 9-12 when my mum took them to a charity shop! I was quite upset and thought I'd never get to read them again... that was until last week. 20 years on, they are still as brilliant as they were, the illustrations and stories are magnificent and the puzzles are still perplexing! Not too difficult, some children will be able to work them out alone, some may need their parent or guardian to help. But I definitely reccomend this book, probably for the ages of 7-13, but like I said, I'm 29 and I still enjoy them!"

"I was a little stunned to find that my daughter was 'reading' out loud from this book as soon as she picked it up. Okay, so she is no reading prodigy it turns out, they just have a set at her nursery, so she is quite familiar with the story and was 'reading the pictures'. Great that it captured her imagination so fast though. According to her nursery they have been a big hit. We both appreciated the artwork, me for the modern quirky pictures and she for the way they show children imagining different dressing up adventures. I like the way the book swaps between a page for parent to read and a page for the child to read so that reading together is really emphasised. The themes of the whole series look varied and appealing (space, zoo, pirates, animals, circus). The system is based on learning to read with synthetic phonics. As always with Usborne books, eyecatching and enticing. If you are trying to teach a child to read I would recommend."

"The title really speaks for itself - an art and craft book of summer-related things to draw, paint and make. It's absolutely full of a variety ideas to keep children occupied throughout the school holidays. Although inspired by summer things - seaside, flipflops, ice cream - this isn't a book that will be used only in summer. There are projects in it to inspire a child's imagination at any time of year. I mustn't forget to mention the most important bit in so many children's eyes - over 250 stickers!! All in all an excellent book filled with hours of creative fun."

"I gave a set of Holiday and Monster Doodle cards to my 2 nephews, aged 5 and 7 to use on a recent camping trip. I had always thought they looked good, but the proof of the pudding was definitely getting the boys to have a go. They loved them, when they woke at 'silly O'clock' instead of wanting go out on their bikes, they sat and doodled for almost an hour! Halfway through the day, they sat and doodled! What's more, the adults doodled, the teenagers (aged 16-19) doodled and so did the Grandparents, so an all round hit! If you need more than 1 pen, then my advice is buy more than 1 pack!! they can be mixed up in the box and it really doesn't matter at all!"

"I just wanted to say that this book is fantastic and both my boys love to sit and play with it for ages - what better credit can you give a book than that! My oldest is train mad and he thinks he has his own little loco in the house :-)
A while ago we had a little accident with the train that accompanies the book (a rather excited boy who dropped his train in the loo then flushed it) and so I contacted Usbornes to try and get a replacement. I was soo pleased when not only did they organise for one to be sent, it came immediately and at no cost, what fantastic customer service!

P.S. to Doyley, it's not more for boys at the end, girls like action too. We're not just boring creatures that sit around and get freaked out by the tiniest things. Cass is a girl and she isn't freaked out by adventure any more than Max-Ernest and Yo-Yoji. Sorry, but I just really had to point this out cuz I'm big into woman's(and girls) rights."

"My daughter was given The Illustrated Classics for Girls for Christmas. It's a lovely gift book, nice padded cover, and the stories are retold with enough gusto and gist of the originals to be exciting. At that point (Xmas) she (age 6) was reading the stories aloud to me but recently, having exhausted the Girls' book, we thought we'd give Boys' stories a try. This one is better still! The stories are so much more exciting. And now my daughter is reading the book to herself, so these titles really have helped her develop as an independent reader. My only gripe is the titles - why not a mixture of classics with no 'Boy' or 'Girl' in the title? It is 2010, after all..."

"This book is fantastic. I got this for my son who was 10 at the time as my husband is in the military and very often away. I wanted something that he could refer to if he was too embarrassed to ask me and I didn't want him to learn stuff from 'playground' talk. As a mum, I would highly reccommend this and am buying the girls version for my daughter."

"I had a lot of fun making this with my daughter. We bought all four models to fit together (beware, the medieval castle isn't the castle that fits with the town, village and cathedral) and spent a few days making them all. As time spent together it was great, but the educational benefits were superb. The physical representation provides an experience you cannot get from books alone; it leads into questions like: Why don't the shops have signs or names, why do they have pictures instead? Why are houses made from different materials? What kind of jobs do people do? Encouraging thinking about the lives of the average medival folk and by so, submersing themselves into the historical period. Of course my daughter didn't realise any of this, she was under the impression that it was just some fun."

Consequently have ordered the second book for 10 yr old girl who again is using it to help with her English lessons at school. Both sets of parents are so pleased with the layout, the content and the ease with which their children can associate the pictures with the words in English. Needless to say, I have The First Thousand Words in Spanish to help me learn the language."
