You can always rely on Usborne to come up with ideas for entertaining children and their packs of Usborne Activity glossy wipe-clean cards...are a brilliant idea.

It’s always a challenge to pack activities on outings to keep small children occupied. These activity cards from Usborne are perfect for that, and small enough to fit into your handbag. They’re the kind of activities children will be familiar with from comics and activity books, but there are loads of them and the beauty is that they can used over and over again. The illustrations are bright and simple, and every activity is pretty straightforward. My children loved them.

Younger children have even more cards in the 100 Things for Little Children to do on a journey set in which, as well as a myriad options for drawing ('someone magical sitting on a spotty toadstool'), puzzles and the odd maze, I am delighted to see that there is a card which encourages children to look out of the car window to find various items. Another option is 50 Things to do on a car Journey and all that has to be done is to choose a card and follow the instructions on the back. Either of these would be great help now that motorway travelling is a distinct hindrance when it comes to playing pub cricket.

Taking off on foreign climes can be thrilling, but that flight to the sun will be less stressful for everyone if overexcited small people are occupied. 100 Things for Little Children to Do on a Journey aims to fill the time with a compact pack of wipe-clean double-sided activity cards complete with pen, which invites children to spot the difference, complete mazes, search for words and much more.

I wouldn’t want to travel without this nowadays! The best bit is that they wipe clean and can be used again and again. The card they are printed on is pretty sturdy and they don’t require anything to lean on in order to use them so they are a pretty great activity for the car as well as any other form of travelling.

100 Things for Little Children to do on a Journey
We took this with us on a recent car journey and I was impressed to see my three children (9, 5 ½ and 3 ½) really engrossed in the activities and asking for them on the way back. Most of the activities are best done individually and some suit younger or older children better but generally, they all enjoyed what they were given to do. They particularly enjoyed the cards asking to finish the picture, whether it was a princess, a car or a funny monster. The boys enjoyed the find the differences and spot the odd one out. The word searches were ideal for the older one. The box is small and perfect to fit in a hand luggage and the potential for revisiting the activities is great. I found another great use for the set was to keep little ones waiting during swimming lessons, finally giving me a chance to keep an eye on what was going on in the pool.

As someone who flies a lot with my daughter (3 years old) these cards have been brilliant. Instead of buying up the toy shop before we fly I now just pack these cards and she's fully occupied, therefore making flying pleasurable once again. The cards do vary in degree of difficulty but it just means that they'll stay in my handbag for longer!
