THE FURRY DETECTIVES
Amy followed the chickens into their home, tipped the food into their bowl and checked they had enough water. Then she stepped outside and fastened the door carefully.
This seemed a good moment to bring up the subject of the disappearing eggs. But she had to be careful – she mustn’t admit that Barney had told her about them. So she pretended that she knew nothing about the problem and asked, “Where shall I put the eggs in the morning?”
Flora sighed. “I don’t expect you’ll find any. My hens haven’t laid any eggs for three whole weeks.”
Her claim was met by squawks of protest from inside the henhouse. All the chickens were talking at once and their voices were muffled by the wooden wall. But Amy was sure she heard someone say “Stolen” and someone else say “Thief”.
Was there a thief at work on Clamerkin Island?
